3 drugs that you can’t stop suddenly; One is accepted by millions

Dr. Asif Ahmed, a general doctor in Great Britain, started to Instagram to raise awareness about the “reflection of the disease”, the state in which the recurrence occurs when some medications are suddenly stopped.

In a recent film, he emphasized three popular drugs that are the most difficult after starting. He also explained why it should be slowly narrowed to avoid serious side effects, dependencies and complications.

“Please, do not stop suddenly or change any of the medications if you are on them. There may be a reason why you need them in the long run. However, if you are worried about any side effects or withdrawal, make sure you mentioned it to the doctor,” said Dr. Ahmed in video.

The first medicine on the Dr. Ahmed list is Venlafaxine, Snri (serotonin-nornosinepinephrine) rewritten as antidepressants. Although it can be very effective for many, Dr. Ahmed warns that this can cause serious side effects when it is suddenly interrupted.

“In my experience, this is one of the most difficult drugs that can be descended, which is why, despite its effectiveness, it is rarely administered as a first-line treatment,” he explained in the film.

Benzodiazepines, a class of drugs often prescribed for anxiety, insomnia and other conditions are another drug. Although in a short period, these drugs can quickly lead to dependence and can have dangerous withdrawal effects when they are suddenly stopped.

One of the most surprising drugs is indicated by Dr. Ahmed, is PPI (proton pump inhibitors), commonly used for acid reflux, such as omeprazole or lansoprazole. These drugs made by millions are widely prescribed, but Dr. Ahmed warns that “they are given too often”, and many people do not realize the symptoms of the reflection that they can cause when they are suddenly stopped.

“Say that you start it for heartburn or reflux when you start getting off it, your stomach actually reacts, producing more acid, which makes reflux even worse and the heartbreak is worse. It means that it is very difficult to get off the drug,” said Dr. Ahmed.

“The crazy thing is that the reflection is often worse than your initial symptom before starting PPI. Everyone should be said before they start the medicine,” he added.
