The WH Who Scientific Advisory Group for the Origins of Novel Pathogens (Sago), panel 27 of the independent, international, multidisciplinary experts, today published a report on the beginnings of SARS-COV-2, a virus responsible for Covid-19 pandemic.
Sago developed the understanding of the beginnings of Covid-19, but as they say in their report, no information needed to evaluate all hypotheses was given.
Thank you to each of the 27 Sago members for devoting their time and specialist knowledge to this very important scientific undertaking for over three years. At the moment, all hypotheses must remain on the table, including zoonotic bake and a laboratory leakage. We are still referring to China and any other country that contain information about the origin of Covid-19 to openly share this information, in the interest of the world’s protection against future pandas. “
Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, CEO
In his report, Sago considered the available evidence of the main hypotheses for the origin of Covid-19 and came to the conclusion that “the weight of available evidence … suggests a zoonotal background … either directly from bats or by the intermediate host.”
Who asked China to divide hundreds of genetic sequences from people with Covid-19 at the beginning of the pandemic, more detailed information about animals sold on markets in Wuhan, and information about the work of done and biosaph in laboratories in Wuhan. To date, China has not made available this information either Sago or WHO.
Sago published his preliminary findings and recommendations in the report of June 9, 2022. Today’s report updates this assessment based on reviewed documents and reviews, as well as available unpublished field research and research, interviews and other reports, including audit results, government reports and intelligence reports. Sago convened in various formats 52 times, conducted severance pay with researchers, scientists, journalists and others.
“As the report says, this is not only a scientific undertaking, it is a moral and ethical imperative,” said Dr. Marietjie Venter, chairman of the group and an outstanding professor and one chairman of health research in vaccines and supervision for emerging viral threats at the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa. “Understanding the beginnings of SARS-COV-2 and how it caused Pandemic is needed to prevent future pandemic, saving life and maintenance and reduction of global suffering.”
During a special session of the World Health Assembly at the end of 2020, which Member States adopted a resolution with a request, who to study the origin of SARS-COV-2. Therefore, a joint mission of international and Chinese experts went to China in January and February 2021 and published her report in March this year.
In July 2021, Dr. Tedros launched Sago with two seats: firstly, designing a global framework for examining emerging origin and re-pathogens, which he published last year, and secondly, to apply this framework to assess scientific evidence to determine the origin of Covida-19.
Work on understanding the beginnings of SARS-COV-2 remains unfinished. Who is satisfied with all further evidence for the origin of Covid-19, and Sago remains involved in reviewing all new information if it becomes available.
