The examination of a doctor accused of poisoning 30 patients begins in France

The French doctor accused of deliberately poisoning 30 patients with child and adults, of whom 12 died, went on Monday, saying before hearing that he was not responsible for the “suffering” of his alleged victims and their families.

53 -year -old Frederic Pechier worked as an anesthesiologist in two clinics in the eastern city of Besancon, when patients went to stop heart in suspicious circumstances in 2008–2017. Twelve could not be resuscid.

He is accused of causing heart attacks in patients so that he can boast of his resuscitation skills and discrediting colleagues.

The youngest alleged victim of Sunchier, a four -year -old identified as Teddy, survived two cardiac arrests during a routine tonsil surgery in 2016. The oldest alleged doctor’s victim was 89.

The study contains an eight -year investigation that stunned the medical community. The unlucky denied the allegations.

The unlucky was welcomed after arriving at the field by several relatives, including one who shouted: “Come, Fredo.”

“It is necessary to put all the cards on the table,” said the unlucky of the RTL sender on Monday, adding that he has “strong arguments” in his defense.

When asked about the suffering of families who will participate in the trial, established until December, the unlucky replied: “I understand it completely, but on the other hand I am not responsible for their suffering.”

The unlucky, the father of the three, is aimed at a lifetime imprisonment if he is convicted. Currently, he is not in custody, but under court supervision, an alternative to pre -trial arrest.

The unlucky has not practiced medicine since 2017, despite the fact that in 2023 he was authorized to work, provided that he did not contact patients.

“I’ve been waiting for it for 17 years,” said Amandine Iehlen, whose 53-year-old father died of cardiac arrest during kidney surgery in 2008.

The autopsy revealed overdose of lidocaine, local anesthesia.

Prosecutor Etienne Manaux said that the case is “unprecedented in French legal history.”

The investigation was opened in 2017. After suspicious heart stakes during surgery in patients considered low.

The unlucky is suspected of manipulating the paracetamol bags of his colleagues or anesthesiological bags to create crisis situations in the operating room in which he could intervene to show off his resusing talents.

“He was accused of poisoning healthy patients to harm his colleagues with whom he was in conflict,” said Manaux.

“Frederic Pechier was the first respondent when a heartbreak was arrested,” he added. “He always had a solution.”

Unlucky blamed his colleagues for most poisoning.

Some colleagues described the unlucky as “anaesthesiologist Star”, while others said that he became arrogant and manipulative.

One collaborator claimed that unlucky was “sure he was the best” and he liked “thinking about himself like Zorro.”

During the inquiry, investigators examined over 70 reports about “serious adverse events”, medical jargon for unexpected complications or deaths among patients.

Cases of 30 patients who have had cardiac arrest during surgery at the Saint-Vincent and Franche-Comte Polyclinic clinic went to the examination.

He criticized the investigation. “What happened to other cases? They were not kept because the unlucky was not involved in them,” he said.

His defense team will argue about acquittal.

“It is very easy to accuse people, it is more difficult to prove,” one of his lawyers, Randall Schwerdorffer, told reporters.

Over 150 civil parties will be represented at the trial.

For the first two weeks, the court will examine the latest matches of the Union, which aroused suspicions of investigators and led to the examination of the anesthesiologist in 2017.

Then any poisoning assigned to the doctor will be examined.

“It will be a legal marathon, but we are ready,” said AFP Stephane Giuranna, a lawyer of several citizens’ parties.

“All roads lead to unlaw.”

“I just want people to be listening to one day,” said Frederic Sunchier in an interview
