At the age of 41, most people juggle their career, families and plans for the future, and they are not looking for Alzheimer’s diagnosis. But this is exactly what happened with a dad from Australia, who now disseminates the awareness of the little -known reality: Alzheimer is not just an old age disease.
Fraser was diagnosed with a young Alzheimer’s disease, a form of dementia that strikes earlier in life before 65 years of age. Now he shares regularly films In YouTube, talking about his journey, revealing that his symptoms began two and a half years before the shocking diagnosis.
As many people did, Fraser initially rejected his memory problems as something related to stress. In one of the films, he remembered a shock of realizing that his memory problems got out of control, especially when he began to forget about the details about his loved ones, like what his teenage daughters planned for that day planned.
Fraser shared one incident in which he almost called the police, he convinced that his daughter had disappeared, just to find out that she was in the cinemas, as she told him many times. Now his family helps him remain on the right track, his children will write his schedules to him and repeat his plans, knowing that he did not remember for the first time.
Another surprising symptom that Fraser began to notice were changes in his sleep pattern and the quality of his rest. He remembered that in periods when his mental health fell, his dream noticeably deteriorated. Although some of them have improved, they admit that some aspects of his night rest have still not fully returned to normal.
“I used to sleep all night again. I don’t sometimes wake up all night, a bit more than probably one day. But I can still fall asleep in order. I noticed that I am sleeping now during the day. I have to sleep during the day, because I just feel exhausted,” he said in the film.
The Fraser channel reflects a few honest moments that reveal how it is to forget about the details. One clip shows how many times he stares at a distance, trying to remind you of the details of the last output with Golf with friends. He later admits that he had problems with remembering names and details: “It just becomes very vague, even when I’m motivated to speak, even when I want to speak – I just can’t” – explained Fraser.
